I run across people from time to time who ask me about my writing. I tell them this story or that or where I’m going with a character. They tell me they’re writers as well and when I ask to read something they’ve written, they reply, “I’m still in the planning stages. I don’t know where to start.”
To throw another quote out there, as Maria said, “Start at the very beginning. It’s a very good place to start.”
I’ve been in that place. I’ve been frozen by the blank pages and the thought of how to fill it with words. But writers write. We lock ourselves away with our thoughts and put them on paper. And because two quotes are not enough, as my mother says, “The room isn’t going to clean itself.”
So I printed this quote out and added it to my vision board to remind myself, in order to become an author, I must suit words to actions.

Or, as Yoda said, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
I may not be published (yet!), but I AM a writer and proud to say so.
I have my son’s Lego minifigure Yoda sitting next to my computer to remind myself of that very thing.
Granted, he’s wearing a Santa hat, but the sentiment is still there.
So very true. I took a writing course a few years back and the instructor told us that the most important element to writing was “chair glue”. The first step is to glue your butt to the chair and get to work.
YES! Chair glue should be part of every writer’s “How to Write” kit.
Thanks for this much-needed reminder!
It was a reminder for me as well.
Is that picture available to copy or reprint I really like it.
The picture with the quote or alone? I took it while visiting the site of “Buck’s Landing” with Cam and am happy to share.
I’ve always thought of myself as a writer. But the writing, well, it doesn’t come easily. I struggle with writing the book, writing more than a few thousand words. I don’t know what the start is or the end. I doubt myself too much.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s exactly what I needed to read today.
Always a good reminder. I know I get ahead of myself with the social media aspects of being a writer, but a true writer is always buried in a word document.
Hello, just wanted to say, I loved this post. It was inspiring. Keep on posting!
